| I would love to be able to provide a backup home-server for Elrond, but I am afraid that the other 2 PC's in this house are constantly playing Lineage 2, which means i dont have enough bandwidth. Does anyone else have a spare computer/bandwidth to run elronds server when his is offline? If thats ok with everyone else, that is... just that lack of online-time and his dodgy internet can be a pain for everyone who want to play | |

| A back up server would be great! ^_^ (in fact, Elrond Server started out as a backup server for Tuna's film server ) | |

| you see, before i moved here to Poland, i had my PC running 24/7 and always connected to internet with broadband connection, so it would have been no problem for me either.... but seriously, and if its ok with Elrond and whoever else runs the server and scripts at the moment, someone reliable with a good connection who would want to host the server would be a good idea to help out Elrond with his lagging connection lately it was just a suggestion... up to Elrond now... | |

| It would be a great thing... and the backup host doesn't have to call it Elrond Server obviously, I only called mine that as I host it, but it can be anything... A common problem I have seen is that people externally (not on the LAN) can't connect to the host's server, probably due to ports not having been forwarded and so on... and it can be troublesome. So the first thing someone who is making a server should do is, run MTA Server.exe, then go to a page that shows you your IP address: http://whatismyip.com/Tell someone the IP, and let them try and join your server. If they can join, then you are suitable as a server host! If you're new to hosting a server, read the nice guide: http://wiki.multitheftauto.com/index.php?title=Deathmatch_Server_ManualAnd some good resources like freeroam you can get here: http://community.mtasa.com/index.php?p=resourcesAll of the resources we use now on Elrond Server come freely with MTA or are downloadable. (I am not a scripter myself, and to host a server you needn't know the slightest thing about scripting!!)

| thanks for the advice elrond.. one thing that happened to me was as follows..... start server, stating my IP (even changed port sometimes) and i could never connect to my own server on the same machine through MTA... it bugged me, then i thought it might be because my GF's brother has played around with the network... I then tried to connect through my Hamachi IP, and it worked perfectly... so if you have hamachi, and you cant connect through normal IP, try your hamachi IP oh.... and to go with the site, i still think the backup server should also be called Elronds Server, and only have one server running at a time to avoid confusion... but thats just my opinion | |

| i know what you mean, but i dont think its possible. The server basically just tells each computer the game type and location of other players etc. All the other files used are stored on client machine. so all these ideas... anyone got a spare machine they wanna have running the server? here is a basic diagram of my netwrok to show you why i cant do anything to help [my pc (mta)] - - - - - -\ [pc2 (lineage)]======[router]========(t'internet) (pc3 (lineage)]=====// basically, with 2 other pc's hogging bandwidth for that fantasy shit, i can barely play normally, let alone serve. However, i can always try to help others | |

| Damn! I didn't expect you to reply hehehe..I thought it was too off topic so I deleted it LOL anyway incase someone is wondering my post was saying that it would be cool if each player could sacrifice a bit their own bandwidth for the server .. so they are acting like mini hosts I know... its not possible (but I wish it was!) ^_^ | |

| you know, if i could host, i would also figure out how to include custom vehicles.... or just make everyone install them to get the same effect as me... and also see if it were possible to have CLEO scripts running... they are cool | |

| If any of u guys need help setting up ports etc im sure i can help- i have some remote desktop tools up my sleeve. But why not just rent out a professional server- theres a post on this somewhere on this forum, why not dig it out- i made a post there with a bloody good deal (MTA server + TS + Webserver <-- not really needed- MTA has a built in web server but could be used) | |

| yeah, renting a server would be cool, but i for one dont have any spare cash each month. some peron or persons with a spare rig sitting around, and a good internet connection who doesnt mind using it for the server is more of a realistic option for now | |
